Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) put a provision in the Water Bill that provides $10 million for building a "Unity Center" to benefit children in Sac Unified School District and surrounding areas. The Unity Center was started after a number of hate crimes in Northern California. It is to teach tolerance and collaborative problem-solving. It's connection to the water bill is that it will have an aquarium, an arboretum and an exhibit explaining water's role in California history. Is anyone else outraged by this at a time when the current California budget (which expires June 30, 2010) is currently projected to be $10 BILLION short?

I agree. What steps do we need to take to get this out of the Bill? And what other outrageously un related items need to be purged to effect good Water Bill?
Talked to Doug LaMalfa about this yesterday. He is--and has been--outraged about the spending in Sacramento, a lot of it done with these "riders" on bills. He said we need to build our numbers fast, and get down to Sacramento! Tell the Legislators, NO MORE SPENDING till the Budget is balanced!! He says this is the most imoortant impact we can make! So, it's up to us; "We the People!" I suggest we contact the other CA Tea Partys and get a real Coalition of us going! DLC, Patriot Press.
They still don't get it! Our state is broke, but they keep on trying to spent more!!! We need to vote out these idiots!
The issues with California water, especially in our local area, are great enough without diverting $ to a specific locality for an indiect purpose that will not directly provide a solution to the current issues at any time in the near future. This is an incredulous action by Steinberg. What is the action plan to have our legislators remove this provision?
