Comment by Товарищ on June 13, 2012 at 9:22pm Update on June 13 2012 Shasta College Bd. of Trustees' meeting concerning gender-identity proposal on Agenda:
I delivered my speech, one wherein I spoke out in defense of 1st Amendment free speech, there was neither deliberation nor discussion amongst any of the Board members on this particular item. Nothing did any of them say, pro or con. No questions did any of them ask concerning the proposal. There was no attempt of any kind to even amend the proposal to ensure overriding & unanbiguous protection of 1st Amendment free speech protections. No such thing did any of them bring up. (Insert cricket-chirp sound effect here.) Motion to approve policy proposal, unamended, was made. It was seconded. It was unanimously approved. Swendiman was present at meeting & was among those voting.
Comment by Товарищ on June 12, 2012 at 2:35pm Gender-Identity policy on Shasta College Bd. of Trustees June 13 2012 Agenda just as was on May 9 2012 Agenda:
Take a look deep into Agenda Item 9.5 "First Reading of Revised or New Board Policies." Deep within that, take a look at this (something proposed to be added to AP 3430). And remember, this is all under the overall policy goal of addressing “gender identity ‘discrimination.’”:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(See pg. 86 of Agenda Packet, a.k.a. pg. 87 of .pdf):
Verbal or Written: The display or circulation of [...] OR (emphasis not in Agenda Packet) discriminatory material (such as, for example, anything promoting traditional (man-woman) marriage), that degrades ("degrades," now there's a thing sufficiently ambiguous to trigger litigation, or at least a chilling effect on heterodoxical* ideas, anyhow) an individual or group based on [...] sexual orientation or other protected status. This may include, but is not limited to, posters, cartoons, drawings, graffiti, reading materials (purging of library, anyone?), computer graphics, or electronic media transmissions (i.e., "private" e-mails, perhaps).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Such a policy proposal can very easily be used as weapon against free speech & the circulation & development of heterodoxical ideas. Without free speech, without the freedom to formulate heterodoxical ideas, liberty, itself is in most certain peril. How interesting it is that in the name of "tolerance," the very opposite of the term may end up becoming official policy. Now, remember, this is a college environment. So they all love to clothe their rhetoric in the language of “tolerance” & “acceptance of alternative lifestyle expressions.” So, if you’re going to make comment, be sure to use the language of “tolerance” to express your love for liberty, for political heterodoxy, for the freedom to formulate & to circulate heterodoxical ideas, etc. For such is the fertile soil from whence come new ideas, concepts, etc., etc. And is not the academic institution supposed to be a place where differing ideas can be discussed amongst those who have yet to form an underlying life philosophy, anyway?
