Comment by Ron Berryman on December 19, 2010 at 8:19am Once the monument designation surrounds your land, you are classified as an "inholder" and will be subject to the results of the inevitably bad decisions that the government makes on monument lands.
Anyone who thinks that the land management will improve once it becomes designated a monument is delusional. Take a look at the forest health right now on government land in the disputed area and ask yourself if this is a "desired condition". The trees are in an advanced state of decline with dead and dying trees everywhere. If the Forest Service couldn't solve this problem, what chance does any other government agency have?
My prediction......large acreages within the monument will eventually burn up in a series of catastrophic wildfires brought on by poor timber management.
What "public good" is this???
Comment by Bonfire on December 18, 2010 at 8:34pm Bet the overlords that patrol that gate, the keymasters, have the ability to arrest her if she trespasses onto her own land once they lock her out. To do so on a regular basis would mean the landowner has his own guard.
What if her animals such as a cow, horse or chickens cross the invisible line do they get confiscated? Many Americans would likely use their 2nd amendment rights to protect themselves from these nazi's.
What about private property near Historical sites? Like the town of Shasta http://www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com/ca/Shasta/districts...
or Horsetown's stagestop? http://shastacountyhistory.com/historic_landmarks
Forget metal detecting or gold panning.
Comment by Michael O Adams on December 18, 2010 at 5:57pm You don't want a National Monument around nor next to you!!!
CEQA in a nut shell say's; you can't do anything with your property that is inconsistant with your neighbors property! Good if your neighbor is a rancher or farmer ... BAD if your neighbor is a National Monument that prohibits everything.

June 9th,2000 marked the creation of the 52,987 acre Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument which included 32,222 acres of non federal land. There has been at least 5,995 acres of land transferred from private to public domain. This 5,995 acres represents 18% of the 32,222 acres of non federal land.
This is from "willing sellers". If you have an inholding, of the federal landlords; the Park Service is the worst, BLM second and Forest service the best (?).
Comment by Michael O Adams on December 18, 2010 at 5:43pm In 2000 Clinton created the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in Oregon. The Monument was stooped at the California border due to political pressure. (can you say public outrage) A lady that has a property in the Monument has deeded right of way but; the BLM put a gate across her road and has repeatedly changed the locks. She has gone to town to get groceries, returned home to find the lock changed! She has to drive all the way back to Medford to get a new key. Meanwhile the ice cream melts in the back seat. This has happened sever times! And if, this happen on a Friday afternoon .... she has to wait till Monday morning when the BLM office is open!
She is prohibited from improving the road across monument ground to her property too! All tools to make her a "willing seller"!
Comment by Bonfire on December 18, 2010 at 5:27pm So w/deeded access I can safely buy that acreage way out in Timbuktu and have a right away to my property without losing it to protect a natural monument in my new yard?
Comment by Bonfire on December 18, 2010 at 5:21pm What about the Wilderness Act? Does it tweak the National Forest Management to make land grabs using natural monuments? I know that the Sierra Club promotes this...also open borders.
Comment by Michael O Adams on December 18, 2010 at 5:14pm Private property within a monument is "not a part of the monument" however there all sorts of side effects! Access is the biggest problem... if you have deeded access then you are much better off than with perscriptive access. Perscriptive access can be denied! Deeded access can not be denied but can be greatly inhibited!!
Comment by Michael O Adams on December 18, 2010 at 5:07pm absolutely! KS WILD the group that is proposing the Siskiyou-Crest Monument has repeatedly apposed the Ashland Ski expansion. The Siskiyou Crest Monument butt up to the ski area too.
Comment by Elizabeth on December 18, 2010 at 4:34pm MICHAEL: do you see in the future, any already developed recreational areas (skiing, etc) being affected in any way by these monuments?
