Tea Party Patriots is a grass roots organization comprised of non-partisan individuals who believe in: Limited Government, Fiscal Responsibility, and Free Markets. The goals of Tea Party Patriots are: 1) to make our voices heard through rallies, contact with elected officials, and media; 2) to educate the public on the important issues of the day, focusing on solutions based on our core values; 3) to act as a watchdog, to ensure that OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR VOTES; and 4) to effect change through the legislative process by identifying and SUPPORTING CANDIDATES and legislation that are consistent with our CORE VALUES. If you believe in these core values and goals, then you may be a Tea Party Patriot!

Hi Alfred,
I've been involved with the tea party since February 2009 so perhaps I can bring some long range perspective to the whole endorsement issue. We discovered early on that candidates would be part of our groups in the normal course of events and others would just hang out with our groups for appearances. A public non-endorsement policy caused those who really just wanted an endorsement to begin legitimate efforts wooing voters one at a time. Every vote in every group needs to be sought because tea party patriots would not be "delivered" like sheep in a flock. Isn't that much more in keeping with our fight for freedom and individual rights?

Endorsements in the tea parties also cause hard lines to be drawn; 100% agreement is very very difficult in any group. All patriots should be free to support the candidate of their choosing without the consent or direction of the tea party. Some candidates will become active tea party participants and others will not - it doesn't make them good candidates because they are part of the group.

It is unlikely that we will attain perfection at any point in this process and to date we have not adopted the perfection doctrine as a core value ;-) We are simply doing our best to bring citizens into a better understanding of our republic and those who would serve it in office. Thank goodness this aspect of our mission will be decided in less than 2 weeks and we can begin to work on other aspects of our mission.

I hope that helps a little. Feel free to give me a call if I can be of help. Sometimes the written word is a bit limited and this is a really important aspect of what we will do as tea party for many years to come. See you at the polls!

Alfred, there is certainly no reason for you to apologize for your post. Your description of the Tea Party Patriots is right on. That has been the intention of the Tea Partys since their inception.
I guess some people just get distracted from the original purpose.
