INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW: WHO AND WHAT IS THE TEA PARTY?

Posted by the Tea Party Patriots this morning.... and being shared with 24 hour Patriots.
Inquiring minds want to know: Who and What is the Tea Party?

Many groups and organizations are working night and day to capture the heart, minds, and support of the Tea Party, but, who and what is the Tea Party?

The Tea Party is an organic movement that sprang into action after the massive bail outs of 2008.  Citizens disgruntled by the aggressive over-reach of government into banks, auto companies, etc… then drawn into focus by the famous rant of Rick Santelli inviting Americans to a Tea Party in Chicago, the tea party sprang up.

Santelli’s Rant: Feb 2009

When we decided to re-brand Resistnet to Patriot Action Network we had discussed the opportunity to change our name and branding to something with Tea Party in the title. We chose to go a different direction because anyone can name themselves Tea Party and attempt to capitalize on the name and movement. That has never been our intention. We instead chose Patriot Action Network and I am glad. Click Here to See what Patriot Action Network stands for!

What makes us the Tea Party?
Our core principles are the glue that unites each of us in this movement. We may not all agree on everything but at the core of our beliefs is a common thread that every Tea Partier agrees with!

Core Tea Party Principles:

1. Limited Government

2. Fiscal Responsibility

3. Constitutional Governance

4. Free Markets

Standing on Principle

From there you will find as many different “Tea Party” sites and organizations as there are opinions!

Social Issues and the Tea Party:
Social issues are important and I always encourage people to vote their conscience.  However, the actual tea party is not about social issues specifically, only as they are covered under the Constitution! Does that mean Tea Partiers don’t care about social issues? NO! Simply it means, the Tea Party realizes that it’s the core foundational principles that UNITE not divide. When you begin delving into social issues you will find that many within the movement will not agree. If it doesn’t UNITE it isn’t a core foundational principle.

We always encourage you to get involved and be active in any area that is of concern to you. However, when it comes to recruiting for the Tea Party, we encourage you to remain steady and stand on the core foundational principle. Regardless of religion, creed, race, etc… most Americans can agree on the basic principles. (except maybe the most progressive liberals!) Use the core principles to turn the tide!

Who is the Tea Party?
Anyone that agrees with the core beliefs is the Tea Party! It’s really that simple!

Who runs the tea party?
You do! By actively pursuing America’s return to the core principles you are the Tea Party! We are all leaders in the tea party. We are all in charge of the tea party. “We the People” are the TEA PARTY!.

How Does Patriot Action Network (a Grassfire Nation organization) Fit into the Tea Party Mold?
We agree with the core principles and we were at the forefront of activism planning and organizing as the Tea Party sprang into action. We were there! Grassfire’s Eric Odom was on the call and organized the Chicago Tea Party. We were one of three organizations that planned the historic March n DC Sept 12, 2009 that brought together 1.7 million tea partiers from around the country. Grassfire’s Darla Dawald (me), was one of the 3 national coordinators for the march!

Time Lapse From Freedom Plaza to Capital March DC 2009

Back in DEC 2008 when Grassfire Nation launched Resistnet.com The Patriotic Resistance, the goal was to resist the progressives move to fundamentally change America. When we started planning for a march on DC in January of 2009, our goal was to unite, equip, and inform citizens of their rights to resist the radical progressive agenda to fundamentally change the US and to stand against bailouts, bigger goverment, and government over-reach.

After we (the movement) won the House in 2010 our goal was to find ways to expand our message, our reach, and the truth, we launched Liberty News and also re-branded to Patriot Action Network. Although we are still resisting, we are a network of engaged patriot citizen activists and we believe that our name should reflect that spirit of activism.

The Tea Party is not a group, a person, a website, or a candidate. The Tea Party is a platform of core principles and if you stand on those principles then YOU ARE THE TEA PARTY!

We don’t purport to speak for you. Our greatest desire is to be a support network for you. We provide tools, resources, community, truth, and hopefully focus. Grassfire Nation, Patriot Action Network, and Liberty News Network are resources for you. We are here to provide tools and support so that the Tea Party activist can accomplish their worthy goals. We are a major pipeline and we need all the pipes connected to us. The reason is simply this: When there is a important grassroots call to action, we need all the pipes to receive the message quickly and then spring into action! If we aren’t connected how will you know.

The Value of the Tea Party Movement:
The value is “United We Stand Divided We Fall”.

The value is that as the Tea Party we have a great opportunity to influence a return to Constitutional Governance, limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets! We have an opportunity to continue setting this great land back on course. We have the opportunity to do what is right and preserve the freedoms we hold dear!

We have caused some great changes up to now and we will continue to influence a return to Constitutional principles by our engagement. Individually, it is hard to cause or influence great change… but when we do what we can where we are, we become a collective movement of like minded people, a catalyst for taking back our country!

Get involved, sign petitions, contact your Representatives regularly and let them know where you are coming from. Join a local tea party group, Volunteer on a campaign, Run for office, become a Precinct Committeeman, Join your local Republican group, Join the Pachyderms, Write a bog/have a voice, Become a poll watcher, and or Register Voters, but do something!

What are you doing as a Tea Party Activist to influence a return to our core principles?
Please share your success, your stories, your ideas, and what you are doing to preserve our country and return her to our core principles.

I am the Tea Party…are you?

"Tea Parties are supposed to be about putting principle over politics, supporting and defending the US Constitution, supporting limited government and personal liberty, getting rid of the Federal Reserve, abolishing the IRS, ending preemptive and pervasive wars, and putting truth and integrity back into government."

A Warning To The Tea Party Nation
by Chuck Baldwin
http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com/c2010/cbarchive_20100212.html

The modern Tea Party movement began in late 2007 with Ron Paul supporters.... then it all changed. The Rick Santelli "rant" in 2009 was likely just manufactured by AFP or FreedomWorks. They had been plotting this for some time and were looking for an opportunity to co-opt and they did so... successfully. Tea Party Nation.... Tea Party Patriots etc. are now just offshoots of the Republican establishment. Please note that I am talking about their leadership. They may talk one way, but do quite another. They often preach fiscal transparency, but don't practice such within their own organizations. They have become nothing more than political televangelist with all the trappings, hype, and monetary shenanigans of slicked-back shady grifters.

Lets break down the "core principles" and decide amongst ourselves:

1. Limited government: you mean like NDAA, the Patriot Act, enemy expatriation act, NAFTA, GATT, WTO? Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Michelle Bachmann have all supported or voted in favor of two or more of these issues, yet "conservatives" or "tea partiers" have placed these folks in high positions and possibly the presidency.....

2. Fiscal Responsibility- Rick Santorum- 5 times to RAISE the debt ceiling. Newt.... cap and trade promoter. Name one of these guys (besides Ron Paul) who wants to abolish the illegal Federal Reserve? Correct, there isn't one. Until the Fed is scraped, the rest is immaterial.

3. Constitutional Governance- again I refer to the NDAA, the Patriot Act, SOPA, shall I make a list? These are your neoconservative, establishment Republicans hard at work.

4. Free Markets- how about fair markets? Free Markets are part of the problem, not solution. Free markets got us NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA, and WTO.... pushed onto us by the neocons and progressives.... now look at us.

Sadly, there are too many dittoheads (Rush L. zombies), Hannity hacks, and Levin losers to make much of a correction. Too many conservatives know only of the "neoconservative" branch which is a far cry from the founders words or intentions.... and worlds apart from the Constitution. The learning curve to get past the neocon hype is painfully slow. It is WHY the GOP is in such a mess.

Please forgive the harsh words of it hits home with anyone here.. but truth hurts. The Tea Party as a whole or as a TP  individual activist will never be more than a neocon/Republican establishment cheerleading squad unless it accelerates it's learning curve away from the propaganda. Research candidates, research issues, then compare it to the Constitution and the voting records on these issues/candidates. If this was truly being done, Santorum, Newt, and Mitt.... would have already been sent home. If this was truly being done, we would not be under the tyranny of the Patriot Act, or NDAA, (or TSA for that matter).

Educate, then activate.

WW and Steve,

"The Tea Party is not a group, a person, a website, or a candidate. The Tea Party is a platform of core principles and if you stand on those principles then YOU ARE THE TEA PARTY!"

4. Free Market

So,  IMO each Tea Party Patriot should do their independent research,  and then VOTE .

Agreed Nancy..... but please examine the evidence. Much of the "independent research" involving 'patriots' is watching Fox news or parroting Rush Limbaugh. Just a couple months ago, Tea Party Patriots National had a straw poll, and gave 1/3 of it to Newt.... explain that. Neocon talk show host i.e. Savage, Levin, Rush, Michael Reagan, Hannity, Laura, etc etc all do their part in maintaining the status quo.

Like it or not, the tea party has an identity. And it's an identity that has been corrupted, co-opted and tarnished. Thankfully, enough have rejected not just the national leadership, but expanded and participated in real activism... which is good.

But I do not buy the argument that it is up to each individual to interpret those core principles.... are they to be followed or aren't they? Is it really that nebulous? If so, why? That is part of the reason we get S_ _T  candidates like Santorum, Newt, and Mitt. Or when "conservatives" vote in Allen West or Michelle Bachmann. They don't observe the Constitution, nor do the folks who elected them, and thats how we get NDAA and the Patriot Act.

Lets again just pick one of the four as an example... fiscal responsibility. It can't be done without a destruction of the Federal Reserve and a return to Constitutional, sound monetary policy. That is just a fact. But why is it that all these "conservatives" won't follow through and vote in that manner? Why will they encumber themselves and their progeny to debt enslavement?

One can only conclude that their research skills are on par with a 3rd graders or they simply WILL NOT make an effort to educate themselves in alignment with the Constitution. The electorate, (among "conservatives) seems little no more informed than they were twenty years ago. They mocked Pat Buchanan, Ross Perot, Ron Paul, the Bircher's etc. Well, they were all correct in their predictions while most conservatives now (or tea party folks) still cling to the establishment's teat... preferring perpetual mid-east wars, an intact Fed, and an embrace of NDAA and the Patriot Act for "security". Unfortunately, the time to "wise up" is not infinite.

Nancy.. with respect....... you just proved my discussion points.

Newt has eviscerated all 4 of the stated core Tea Party principles during his career more than once, but if I understand you correctly, his recent debate performances and skillful ability to get a message across wins his vote as opposed to someone who admittedly doesn't message as well BUT has honored all of the 4 stated principles with consistent fidelity over his career. Nancy, who should I trust?

What I have just stated is painfully easy to research and the thoughtful and skilled participants on this site have done so repeatedly for the benefit of all.

I honestly would not care if Ron Paul stuttered every other word and looked like Yoda. His proven record as a statesman and Constitutionalist is enough for me.

Simply talking a good game isn't enough for me.... I want substance. I want a Constitutional voting record. I want loyalty to the Constitution. With Newt??? Good luck trying to find any of that. If you have not researched the real Newt Gingrich please do so, if you need links, many here will assist.

I hold no illusions that most conservatives will really adhere to those stated principles.... they prefer soundbites to statesmen, to debates rather than records, to Fox News rather than a book or internet research.

Best of luck to you fellow patriot..............

Congressman Ron Paul of Texas rails against excessive government spending and higher taxes, but he loves to legislate pork barrel projects for his congressional district. His extensive earmark spending has increased the federal government’s enormous budget deficit and may lead to more tax increases in the future.

According to the Free Republic, “one of the odd things I hear from time to time of my libertarian colleagues and friends is their perception that Texas Republican Ron Paul is a rare model of purity in a political pigsty.”

Apparently, congressman Paul earned over $157 million in earmark requests for FY 2011, just one of only four House GOP members to resort to such Democrat-style spending practices. He additionally captured over $398 million in earmark requests for FY 2010, once again of the leading House Republican members.

Here’s a list of some of his pork barel projects that appear to conflict with his so-called conservative principles:

1.        $8 million from federal taxpayers for Recreational fishing Piers

2.        $2 million from federal taxpayers for a ‘Clean Energy’ pilot project

3.        $4 million from federal taxpayers for the ‘Trails and Sidewalks Connectivity Initiative”

Nevertheless, Ron Paul does vote against his own earmarks in a Congressional vote but that’s after Democrats assure him his earmarks spending bill would pass and signed into law by President Barack Obama.

With no disrespect intended, I’d say that Ron Paul knows how to bring back money to his district that has been confiscated from his district by the federal government without voting for unconstitutional legislation. It seems he may be a tad smarter than many give him credit for, and he sticks to his principals time and time again. Speaking of principals, how is ole Newt doing on being consistent to principals these days?

Newt Gingrich - part 1

Newt Gingrich - part 2

Michael,

Thanks for making a point.    You can go anywhere on the internet and find articles, polls, graphs, voting records, etc. etc.  and countless articles of propoganda to frame any point of view you desire .  Favorable or Not you can do this all day long for all four GOP candidates as well as B. Obama.

Each of the candidates have a history in politics and/or in private enterprise ~ so there's alot to work with depending how you want to spin it.

If you believe Ron Paul is the best candidate for President..... if you believe he's the best candidate to go head to head against Obama....  convince me and the American voters.

Nancy, there was no 'spin' in the articles Michael linked to, just a short history of Newt's (verifiable) record. Ugly, yes, truthful, yes. propaganda... no.

Truth is often painful.

Michael, on all points, is correct. (again)

Nancy, can you honestly say that after reading parts 1 and 2 of Michael's links that you would vote for Newt? And trust me.... I will lose no sleep if you do, but can you honestly say it even anonymously on this forum?

I guess I have the need to understand this phenomenon.

To me, it's like when a "john" visits a red light district. The streetwalkers talk ever so sweetly. "Oh you're so handsome" "I'll do whatever you want" etc etc. Of course, the streetwalker has the perpetual habit of lying and doesn't reveal the multiple STD's, but in reality, the "john" should know better. He falls for the sweet talk and a couple of weeks later realizes his folly. He is out the money in addition to a host of other problems. Well, the streetwalker in this case is Newt Gingrich..... the "johns"  of course, are those who take the sweet talk bait. I am sorry to use such a rough analogy, but I don't see any other way to shock people into reality.

The 31% who voted for Newt in the Tea Party Patriots National straw poll should be horribly embarrassed. Sorry Nancy, but I can't sugar coat this. You seem very nice and informed but supporting Newt does not jive with the very principles you promoted in posting this article.... he doesn't even come close.

In 2012, with the internet and all the tools available for research..... "sweet talk" should not even be on the table.

Michael,  "Ameritopia" by Mark Leven covers some of the same issues K. Nelson covers in her article that you've posted.     The first part of the book goes into great detail regarding the influence early philosophers such as Plato had in formation of societies.  It covers the influence this has had on American political leaders  and the resulting Ameritopia we are now experiencing.

Nancy,

Thank you for the book reference. However, I do not believe it necessary to read in order to understand who Newt really is, or if someone is telling the truth or not.

You are correct; anyone can find "countless articles of propaganda to frame any point of view you desire." It can be used like a shell game to hide the truth. The truth can easily be obscured from the less informed with skillful misdirection. We can know truth from lie, if we just look at the evidence.

Many people don't like the truth. I suppose that is why so many politicians use deception, misdirection, and outright lies to get elected and stay in power. To most all, it is all about money and power.

This country faces some very real problems. Ron Paul understands these problems and the consequences if we fail to address them. I have never found him to lie or deceive. He respects the Constitution and his voting record proves it. He speaks the truth, even when the American people wish not to hear.

It is all about adherence to our Constitution. All the candidates have a record that reflects their position on that. They either do, or they don’t. Justifications for its violation, no matter how they spin it, are no excuse.

Favorable or Not, the pundits can spin all day and night, and it will never change my mind. There is only one who has a solid record of standing for the Constitution.

It is as simple as that.
